Only Fools and Tourists....

It doesn't matter where you are in the entire world - and I mean the beaches in the Med, the islands in the Andaman Sea, or the villages in Indonesia, the initial greeting between seller and tourist is the same...

Seller: "Hello, Mister!"
Tourist: "Hello."
Seller: "Where are you from, mister?"
Tourist: "Me? Oh, England - Britain..."
Seller: "England? Capital City: London; Prime Minister: Tony Blair; LOVELY JUBBLY!"

OK, perhaps the listing of ínteresting facts' on Great Britain is unique only in Asia, but you will never fail to here the words 'Lovely Jubbly' uttered by said foreigner when you mention you are from England. The question is - where are they getting it from?
I can't really in my heart of hearts believe that there is anyone from the UK who actually uses it in standard conversation, at least enough for it to be picked up on by people who live in the furthest reaches of the jungle in Malaysia, or the sun-kissed beaches in southern Cambodia. I would find it easier to believe that Del-boy did actually make his millions, and has visited all these places before, spreading his good natured humour, teaching the beach sellers a few tricks, whilst sipping his Pina-Colada complete with 'umbrella'.

Maybe it's just from all those people reading your blog - I'm certainly going to say "Lovely Jubbly" to everyone from the UK whom I meet from now on. =)

Hope you're boith well. Miss you millions,

Mouse, x
